In the auto electrical world, precision is everything. Whether we’re diagnosing issues in a car’s onboard computer system or repairing complex electrical components, as technicians we are always looking for new ways to access the internal structure of circuit boards in order to detect the type of fault we’re dealing with. To this end, X-ray technology really is revolutionising the way we do things, and we think it’s pretty exciting!
Keen to know more?
The greatest advantage of using X-ray to inspect circuit boards is that it completely eliminates the possibility of damage. Traditional inspection methods often require components to be damaged or dismantled in order to identify the problem. X-ray technology now allows us to examine the interior of the circuit board without the need for disassembly, just as X-raying a patient with a broken limb saves them from having to be cut open so the surgeon can see what’s going on! This non-invasive approach helps preserve the integrity of the board and its components, and saves our customers money by avoiding the need for unnecessary replacement of parts.
Our X-ray vision lets us look deeper.
The average automotive circuit board is packed with intricate components and wiring. Many faults within these systems—such as broken connections, short circuits, or damaged solder joints—are simply not visible to the naked eye. X-ray imaging enables us to look down beyond the external layers in order to identify any defects that are hidden deep within the board. One of the most common examples would be internal fracturing in solder joints, which can cause intermittent failure and can’t be seen even under a microscope. By identifying such defects early on in the investigative process we are then able to perform the kind of fast and accurate repairs which simply haven’t been possible up until now.
Avoiding the guesswork with enhanced diagnostic accuracy.
X-ray machines provide the kind of high-resolution, detailed visual representations of a circuit board’s internal structure that the average automotive technician can only dream about. We are also able to zoom in on specific areas in order to examine the exact placement of components and the condition of the wiring. This enables us to understand the root cause of a problem and thus determine the best course of action.
Faster and more efficient. What’s not to like?
As with any service industry, time is of the essence, and every hour that a circuit board is sitting in our workshop is an hour where the client is unable to use their car. Traditional methods of inspecting circuit boards, such as magnification tools or repair through trial and error can be painfully time-consuming and inefficient for us, and frustrating for the customer. X-ray machines significantly speed up the inspection, identification and repair process by allowing us to identify the problem instantly.
Better precision. Better accuracy.
Now that x-ray technology is allowing us to clearly see the internal structure of a circuit board, our technicians are able to effect far more precise and accurate repairs. Better alignment, perfect soldering, and quicker identification of faulty parts result in higher-quality repairs, crucial in an industry where even a small electrical failure can have significant consequences on a vehicle’s performance and safety.
The future is X-ray.
As modern vehicles rely more and more on increasingly complex electronic systems, the need for cutting-edge diagnostic tools such as X-ray machines is only going to grow. By investing in X-ray technology, auto electrical technicians such as the team at Get Electronic are going all out to ensure that we have the tools to handle the ever-evolving challenges of late-model cars. Our brand new state-of-the-art X-ray machine, the only one of its kind in Australasia, is an absolute game changer, and will see us outperforming our competitors on a regular basis, with more efficient repairs and faster turnaround times.
And if you were envisioning us wearing lead-lined aprons and running out of the room every time we take a new image, the best part of our new toy is that the radiation is fully contained! So please rest easy, knowing that no technicians will be harmed during the repair of your circuit board.
